Although some historians will tell you that the name Tijuana comes from the Yuman language of the Kumayaay and means "Close to the sea" Locals swear that it's derived from an Indian woman named "Tia Juana" or "aunt Jane" who was known for providing travelers with good food and a nice place to sleep.
