Enjoy Puerto Nuevo

Puerto Nuevo, often called Lobster Town, is a small coastal village in Baja California, Mexico, famous for its signature Puerto Nuevo-style lobster. This tiny town, located just south of Rosarito and about 40 minutes from the U.S.-Mexico border, has built a reputation for serving delicious, affordable lobster meals with a unique preparation style.

The tradition dates back to the 1950s, when local fishermen began selling their fresh lobster to tourists. Word spread, and soon, small family-run restaurants opened up to meet the growing demand. Today, Puerto Nuevo has more than 30 restaurants serving lobster, making it a seafood lover’s paradise.

Amazing food

Puerto Nuevo-style lobster is typically Pacific spiny lobster, which is fried to a crispy golden brown rather than boiled or grilled. The meal is traditionally served with:

  • Handmade flour tortillas (large and thick, perfect for making lobster tacos)

  • Mexican rice

  • Refried beans

  • Melted butter and salsas for dipping

Scenic coastal views

Some restaurants have oceanfront patios where you can watch the waves while you eat.
